Sports field closure

cricket ball in parkSports field closure can occur for three main reasons - inclement weather, renovations and a major sporting event.

Inclement weather

Council Officers may recommend closure of any or all Council controlled sporting fields during inclement weather.  If this occurs notification is placed on Council’s Sports Field Hotline (07) 5581 7827.

Should Council’s recommendation be disregarded users will be responsible for costs of repair to damaged fields.  Please note, clubs that choose to disregard Councils advice and play on closed fields may not be covered under their Public Risk Policy.

Major sporting events

Major events supported by Council will take priority over any Right of Use Agreement.  Council will liaise with clubs prior to these events taking place and assist where possible in finding alternate venues for the club(s) affected by the major event.  An example of a major event is the Pan Pacific Games.

Renovations

To ensure fields and facilities remain in good playing condition, Council has implemented an annual renovation program.  Major field renovation work must take place between September & March when the growth period takes place. Council may elect to close any field for an extended period of time in order to conduct rectification or renovation works.  Written notification will be sent to each ROU holder.

Clubs wishing to conduct maintenance above & beyond Council’s must seek Council approval before commencing works.  Please contact Recreation Services if your club wishes to conduct maintenance above and beyond Councils program.

Failure to adhere to sports field closure may result in the organisation being fined.  A minium fine of $500 applies.
