Future parks and park improvements


There are several Gold Coast parks currently undergoing improvements.  The Gold Coast parks team are excited to deliver these improved facilities for all residents.


Current projects

  • Ormeau Skate Park Upgrade

Ormeau Skate Park Upgrade The park will compliment the new Ormeau Youth and Community Centre, which is currently under construction.  The concept plan includes the demolition of the existing skate ramps and shelter and construction of a youth space and skate park. The proposed upgrade will include a skatepark, new shelter, seating space, a stage and playground.  The ex freestyle BMX track will be retained in the current format.  Click on image to view enlarged sketch of concept plan.


  • Pizzey Park

Burleigh Bears Senior Rugby League Club are about to commence works at Pizzey Park to develop a training field adjacent to the main field.  The works have been partly funded through the State Government's Sport and Recreation Infrastructure Program.

In addition to the field works, Council in conjunction with Burleigh Bears will provide an additional 130 carpark spaces that will not only cater for activities at the park but also accommodate staff at the adjacent Council depot during work hours.  Total cost for the projects will be $680,000.  The works are due to commence in September 2012 and will not be complete until March 2013.  Pedestrian access from Paradise Avenue to Pizzey Park will be unavailable during this period.  Alternative access is provided via Pacific Parade.  For further information please contact Council on 5581 6984.


  • Coomera Youth Facility

Stage one is now open and comprises a vert ramp/half pipe and soft fall, along with the viewing area/terrace, carpark, tables and benches. Stage two, designed by world renowned BMX champion Tim Wood, will feature a dirt track with jumps (varying in sizes/complexity), shaded viewing platforms, main entertainment stage, toilet block, shade trees and a wetlands area. Click the image below to view the masterplan (3.65MB)



  • Roughton Park, Kirra playground concept image

The new kids playground being installed at Roughton Park is sure to delight the little ones!  Other improvements include new barbecues, bubblers and drinking fountains; picnic settings and installation of exercise equipment stations.   This great park at Kirra is about to become even greater!



  • Damian Leeding Memorial Park, Oxenford

A new kids playground has been installed at Damian Leeding Memorial Park, providing countless hours of entertainment for kids of all ages!  Other facilities will soon include barbecues, shelters, bubblers, drinking fountains, and a brand new amenities block.  Damian Leeding Memorial Park is sure to be a favourite for families.



Future projects

  • Nerang Community Hub and Sports Park

Council has purchased the former Paradise Country site at Billabirra Crescent, Nerang, with plans to transform the area into sporting and community facilities. When this 13.25 hectare site became available in 2011, it presented an opportunity to increase these community services in Nerang. 

Council purchased the site in February 2011 for $3.35 million. The master plan, is likely to include a range of community uses such as sporting fields, community facilities and community gardens. The park, currently known as Nerang West Sports Park, will provide much needed facilities for the local community.  Council is looking to allocate funds in future budget/s for this park development. It is proposed to develop this site in stages over the next 10 years with early works already commenced.

  • Burleigh Palms/Coplicks Family Sports Park

Council has purchased the former Burleigh Palms Golf Course site at Tallebudgera Creek Road, Tallebudgera.  The site was purchased to meet the ongoing demand for sport and recreation within the Southern Gold Coast.  The development will include sporting fields and associated infrastructure, complimenting the adjacent Coplicks Family Sports Park. Council is looking to allocate funds in future budget/s for this park development. It is proposed to develop this site in stages over the coming years.
