Following approaches from the local community, Council's Natural Areas Management Unit (NAMU) identified Davenport Park, Bonogin Valley as a potential site for a new bushcare group under the Beaches to Bushland Volunteer Restoration program.
As a result of positive feedback, a community planting day was held along Bonogin Creek on Saturday 27 April. In total 35 people assisted with the planting of 500 native plants - a great first time effort for the new group!
Division 9 Councillor and Bonogin resident Glen Tozer came along to support the event with his young family and encouraged the community to become involved.
Due to the high level of interest and enthusiasm shown, the group will now officially form as the Bonogin Valley Bushcare Group and will be supported by NAMU with a Restoration Officer attending each session. Volunteer days will be held on the first Saturday of the month starting on 1 June from 8am - 10am.
Activities will include weed control and planting where required.
